August 1 Nanchang

Today has been a relaxing day and we've used the day to catch up some laundry, reorganize our suitcases for the flight to Guangzhou on Saturday, and take an outing down to eat at McDonald's and to a very nice shopping center where we also explored a store called RT Mart that reminded us of a super target back home.  They even carry the Cherokee Brand of clothes- but i can tell they are different designs than what we see at our stores.  One amusing thing that I haven't recorded yet ( I am posting a picture on Facebook) is the fancy, high sandals that nearly all the women here wear.  Keep in mind that they walk everywhere, or ride on motor scooters or a taxi.  So you'll see a mom in her fancy high heels on a scooter with groceries, maybe with a baby strapped to her back or other children riding as well.  There is no law for seat belts or cars seats, so it will be a real change for Kailyn to have to be strapped in a seat when we get home.  Here she can move around freely in the van we usually take when we have long outings, she can stand or lay down, and so can the boys.  There are times when you want to just close your eyes as the driver weaves down the street.  Surprisingly, we haven't seen any wrecks or anyone get run over.  In our American viewpoint, I would describe the driving here as just barely dodging the other cars and people. As for lanes- can't tell most of the time is there are any except for the lanes that divide the direction of traffic-but you just weave around other traffic to get where you are going, and if you need to cross the double middle lines to do so that is acceptable as well.  Oh- And it is perfectly acceptable to just make a U turn if you need to- regardless of how crowded the streets are.  You just kind of force the other cars to let you through.  Horns are used as signals for everything- move out of the way, I 'm coming through, for changing "lanes," for backing up, anything, so there is the constant noise of beeping horns in the city.  The crickets here are exceptionally loud, especially if you are in a grassy park.  It's like there is so much concrete everywhere else, that all the crickets in the entire city have congregated in that one park so that they are very loud.
Last amusing fact of the day- currently, the boys are watching what appears to be painted up garbage trucks racing on dirt track racing courses.   Who would have thought:)

We have had then opportunity to meet two other adoptive families here at our hotel- one from Pennsylvania, and the other from somewhere in Europe.  We are always seated near each  other at breakfast each morning.  So that makes us feel not so out of place here.

Kailyn continues to do exceptionally well.  We are getting to know her and that is making it easier to sooth her and learn when she is just ready for a nap.  She doesn't like to be covered up, and she won't have anything to do with the blanket or bear we sent in her care package.  Oh well.  She does like the toys we brought with us though.  The little stinker gets stir crazy in the hotel at times just like we do - I mean, we are all enjoying being able to relax together and this hotel is sooooo nice, but when we are ready to get out, she usually is already hanging out around the door, it is like she is letting us know she is ready too:).  Joseph particularly takes to her and is always trying to interact with her and help her.  It is really sweet.  I can't quite tell what David thinks about her yet, but I am glad to see that he is handling all the attention she gets quite well.  She is such a good natured little girl but she does let you know her opinion as I think I mentioned in the last post.  I think she is already starting to recognize when we call her, maybe not by her new name, but by tone of voice. I also think she is going to learn the word "no" sooner than I intended simply because i do have to keep her away from the toilet whenever I am doing anything in the bathroom.  So funny.  It is like a magnet.

Well, that is all for now, Kailyn is sleeping and then we are going to decide what to do fr dinner.  We continue to thank you all for your prayers.  We are enjoying a wonderful experience here in China, but there are times when we miss the comforts  and familiarity of home.
