The heart of a child...

This post will be short, but maybe the most worthy of recording.  Throughout this process, our boys have not ceased to amaze us by their innocent childhood compassion they have voiced about the girls who will one day live in our home.  When we talk with them about the possible adjustments that will have to be made, or the possible needs that the girls will bring with them, the boys understand only the need, while Andrew and I struggle at times to see past obstacles.   They ask often about the girls, what will we name them, what color will the room be, (Joseph has determined that the current ceiling fan should be painted pink), and Joseph has already marked some children's websites that "girls like" (i.e. Junie B. Jones) for them to play when they get here.  Just a moment ago, Joseph was asking me about a man that we saw last night who had a disability.   Did his childhood disease make him that way?  Will our girls have a disability like that?  But his concluding remark reminds me of how numb we as adults can sometimes get to harsh realities that seem too overwhelming even to think about and that are easier to just pretend do not exist.  Meanwhile a child exposed to some realities would not understand doing anything less than everything we possibly can to help those in need.  So Joseph said "So mom, if I were adopting, I would get the kids who had the worst problems with their bodies.  That way they could come here and we could take them to the hospital."  I pray to have a heart like that!
